Reducing Environmental Impact
NOK Corporation promotes environmental conservation initiatives worldwide as part of its efforts to fulfill its corporate social responsibilities and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society and a better future.
Promoting resource circulation by recycling rubber flash
To support the transition to a sustainable circular economy, NOK promotes the effective use of resources throughout the product life cycle, while working to reduce and recycle waste generated during manufacturing.
Approximately 9,500 metric tons of rubber flash, the excess material produced during molding and processing, is generated each year in the manufacture of rubber products. NOK is developing technologies to reuse this material in products such as rubber mats and rubber coasters.
Using renewable energy through an agrivoltaic off-site PPA
As part of efforts to realize a decarbonized society, NOK has introduced the NOK Group’s first agrivoltaic off-site PPA* at its Shizuoka Plant.
Renewable energy generated at an agrivoltaic solar power facility in Shizuoka Prefecture covers approximately 5% of the plant’s annual electricity consumption, helping to reduce CO2 emissions. Local producers also grow lemons beneath the solar panels, with the project aiming to both reduce environmental impact and promote coexistence with the local community.
*Off-site PPA (Power Purchase Agreement):
A system in which an energy service provider supplies a customer with electricity generated from renewable energy, together with the associated environmental value, using dedicated solar power generation facilities located outside the customer’s premises. The agrivoltaic off-site PPA adopted in this initiative uses agrivoltaic solar power generation, also known as solar sharing, with the aim of combining renewable energy procurement with local agriculture.
